Ilario IL43033 | 1:43 Ferrari Enzo Development Car (M3 Mule) 2001 | Matt Black | Hand-Built Resin

A Ferrari 348 body, stretched 250mm, hiding the V12 that would become the Enzo. This is the M3 — one of three "muletto" test mules Ferrari built between 1999 and 2000 to develop the car that would carry the founder's name. The first two looked like stock 348s and tested suspension and an early Graziano gearbox. The M3 went further: its rear end was reworked entirely to fit the new 6.0-litre F140 V12, with a welded aluminium air box, an oil radiator borrowed from the 550, and doors and interior pieces still wearing the old 348.

Ferrari normally destroys mules once the production car arrives. The M3 survived, stored away until 2005, when it was auctioned alongside the 400th Enzo — on the condition it would never be made road legal. It sold for €195,500. It remains the only V12-powered 348 Ferrari ever built.

In matt black, this model captures the M3 exactly as it ran during 2001 testing — an awkward, brilliant piece of engineering history disguised as an old sports car.

Ilario, hand-built resin, 1:43 scale, display case included. Brand new.
