BBR Premium C139pre | 1:43 Ferrari California T | Rosso California | Open Roof | Red Leather Base | Only 20 Pieces Worldwide — The Rarest Tier of BBR's 1:43 Production
Twenty pieces. That is the total worldwide production of this model. Not a hundred, not fifty — twenty. The BBR Premium Series is the most exclusive tier in BBR's entire 1:43 range, defined precisely and without exception: the first twenty examples assembled of each product code are set aside, presented on a red leather display base, and released as the Premium edition. Once those twenty are gone, the Premium version of that model ceases to exist. The standard BBRC139 California T was itself limited to 350 pieces. This Premium version represents not the standard release but its rarest possible expression — the first twenty off the bench, on red leather, from Italy's most accomplished hand-builder of 1:43 Ferrari miniatures.
The Ferrari California T was, by any measure, one of the most important cars Ferrari made in the modern era. When the original California arrived in 2008, Ferrari's order books were overflowing and the company was reaching customers it had never previously accessed — drivers who wanted open-top Ferrari motoring, comfortable grand touring, and a 2+2 interior — a combination the company had not offered since the Mondial. That car kept Ferrari commercially viable through the years following the global financial crisis, outselling every other Ferrari model in the process. The California T, launched at Geneva in March 2014, was the evolution: the same retractable hardtop spider format, the same grand touring brief, but with a turbocharged engine that changed the performance equation completely.
The engine was the 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 designated F154 BB — the same fundamental architecture that would go on to power the 488, the 488 GTB, the Portofino and the SF90. In the California T, with Variable Boost Management software adjusting torque delivery to the gear selected, it produced 560 cv at 7,500 rpm and a massive 755 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm — representing 49% more torque than the naturally aspirated California it replaced, with a 15% reduction in fuel consumption, and 100 cv more power. Despite that step change in performance — 0–100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, 316 km/h maximum — Ferrari virtually eliminated turbo lag through the use of an F1-derived flat-plane crankshaft, twin-scroll turbines, and carefully optimised inertia reduction. The car weighed 1,625 kg dry and rode on a 2,670 mm wheelbase, making it a genuine 2+2 that could carry four adults in considerable comfort on a long journey, then cover a mountain road with the kind of composure that justified its Ferrari badge. Approximately 15,000 were built between 2014 and 2017, before the California T was succeeded by the Portofino.
Rosso California is the colour Ferrari created specifically for this model — a red that carries the warmth of the Californian landscape in its tone, distinct from the cooler aggression of Rosso Corsa and the deeper formality of Rosso Scuderia. Presented in the open-roof configuration, it is photographed and displayed in the form that the California T was designed to be used — roof stowed, wind in the air, the full landscape of the car's sculpture visible without interruption.
BBR Models of Saronno — founded in 1984, official Ferrari model manufacturer, the standard by which all other 1:43 resin builders are measured — presents this in the Premium Series format: individually hand-assembled and finished by artisan modellers in Italy, individually numbered, accompanied by a BBR guarantee certificate, and presented on the red leather base that identifies every Premium Series piece as belonging to the first twenty produced. In BBR's plexiglass showcase. Brand new, factory sealed.
