Takuma Sato's first IndyCar race in front of his home fans. Round 16 of 2010, his debut season with KV Racing Technology, finishing 12th — ahead of fellow Japanese drivers Hideki Mutoh (14th) and Roger Yasukawa (20th).
Helio Castroneves led 153 of 200 laps from pole for his third win of the season and second at Motegi specifically. A building-block season for Sato, three years before his breakthrough win at Long Beach made him the first Japanese driver to win an IndyCar race.
