The Ferrari FXX is not a road car and not a race car. It is something rarer than either: the first vehicle in Ferrari's XX Programme, a private research initiative in which fewer than 30 invited clients drove the most extreme machine Maranello could build, at Ferrari-approved circuits, feeding real-time telemetry data directly to Ferrari's engineers. It was the car that started the XX lineage — the 599XX, FXX K, and FXX K Evo all follow from this one.
Black makes this particular model exceptional even within that context. Of the entire 30-car customer production run, only two FXXs were delivered in Nero. The final car ever built — chassis 149546 — was presented to Michael Schumacher at the Nürburgring XX event in September 2006 to mark his Formula 1 retirement: no white stripe, matt exhausts, his red MS script on the tub. That car, and one other, are the only two Nero FXXs in existence.
The engine is a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 producing 800 PS at 8,500 rpm — 140 PS more than the Enzo donor car — with gear changes of under 100 milliseconds, Bridgestone slicks developed exclusively for this model, and 40% more downforce than the Enzo. Weight: 1,155 kg. 0–100 km/h: 2.7 seconds. Top speed: 345 km/h.
