For context, every other collector in the world who owns this specific model can be counted on the fingers of two hands with room to spare. At that level of scarcity, BBRC197D is not simply a model car. It is a miniature object of genuine rarity.
The car it represents carries its own distinguished credentials. The Ferrari 488 Challenge, which debuted in the 2017 season, was the sixth generation of Ferrari's one-make racing series — a programme that has run continuously since 1993, providing Ferrari owner-drivers with a factory-supported platform to compete at circuits across three regions worldwide. The 488 Challenge brought a fundamental change to that history: for the first time in the series' existence, it was powered by a turbocharged engine. That engine was the 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 derived from the road-going 488 GTB — the same unit that won the International Engine of the Year Award in 2016 — tuned specifically for racing with bespoke engine mapping, shorter gear ratios delivering an 11.6% acceleration improvement over the outgoing 458 Challenge EVO, and significant weight reductions of 19.7 kg from the engine alone and a further 8.5 kg from the exhaust system. The result was 670 hp at 8,000 rpm and 760 Nm of torque — the most powerful engine ever fitted to a Ferrari Challenge car at the time of its introduction. The F1 dual-clutch transmission deploys a racing shift strategy capable of accelerating the car from a standstill to maximum revs in fourth gear in just six seconds.
Aerodynamically, the 488 Challenge was developed in close collaboration between Ferrari's engineering team and the Ferrari Styling Centre to maximise efficiency without compromising the visual language of the road car. The front radiator layout was reworked with an inverted rake to improve airflow in racing conditions while simultaneously reducing drag. The massive rear wing, the widened front splitter, and the comprehensive underbody package combine to generate substantially greater downforce than the production 488 GTB, balanced with a precision that the Pirelli slick tyres — 275mm wide at the front, 315mm at the rear — translate directly into corner speed and braking performance that simply cannot be accessed on road-specification rubber.
Nero Opaco — matte black — is the finish that strips every visual distraction away from the 488 Challenge's architecture. No reflections. No gloss. No colour to flatter the surface. Just the pure silhouette of a racing car designed without compromise, presented in the finish that makes every aerodynamic surface and every bodywork line read as the engineers intended.
