BBR BBR119 | 1:43 Ferrari 375MM s/n.0456AM | "The Bergman Coupé" | Roberto Rossellini | Grigio Ingrid | One of Ferrari's Most Celebrated One-Offs

There are Ferrari models, and then there are Ferraris with stories. Chassis 0456AM belongs entirely to the second category — a car whose history intertwines Italian cinema, Hollywood glamour, and Pininfarina design genius in a way that no other automobile can match.

In late 1954, having just watched his wife Ingrid Bergman persuade him to give up motor racing after a single outing at the wheel of his 375 MM Spyder at the Karlskoga Kanonloppet, director Roberto Rossellini commissioned Pinin Farina to build her a gift. The commission called for a one-off coupé body on the 375 MM competition chassis, finished in a colour that had never existed before — a pale champagne-gold eventually named Grigio Ingrid in her honour. The design brief was interpreted by Aldo Brovarone, whose creation introduced a series of details that were remarkable for 1954: pop-up covered headlights, distinctive side coves that would later find an echo in the 1956 Corvette, a sweeping rear hatchback integrated with large buttresses, and an overall aerodynamic language that clearly pointed toward the future. The car debuted at the Paris Auto Salon in autumn 1954 and was delivered to Rossellini in late December.

As for Ingrid Bergman — she never took delivery of the car. Rossellini kept it until 1957, when it passed to its second owner in Rome before making its way to the United States. The design itself proved more enduring: automotive historians and Ferrari specialists credit 0456AM as a key stylistic predecessor to the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, one of Pininfarina's most celebrated grand tourers of the modern era.

The colour created for 0456AM proved equally lasting. Grigio Ingrid was eventually added to Ferrari's standard production palette, and the name has remained in use ever since — one of the very few instances in automotive history where a bespoke personal commission gave rise to a colour that has been available on every Ferrari produced in the decades since.

Of the 26 Ferrari 375 MM produced between 1953 and 1955, chassis 0456AM stands alone in its coachwork configuration and its story. It is, without question, one of the most historically and cinematically significant Ferrari road cars ever built.

BBR Models of Saronno — the founding name in Italian hand-built resin 1:43 — renders this legendary car in their signature BBR BUILT format: crafted entirely in Italy by skilled artisans with over 40 years of experience, numbered, and accompanied by a BBR guarantee certificate attesting its quality and authenticity. The Grigio Ingrid finish is rendered with the understated pale-silver elegance the colour demands, presented in BBR's plexiglass showcase, factory sealed and brand new.
